Day 0 - Coronavirus UK Lockdown
So Covid-19 has been crawling across lands and seas, slowly infecting the human race. One by one countries have started to lockdown entire cities and towns, closing schools, public spaces, banning events, mass gatherings, funerals haven’t escaped the impact as rules impose a funeral may on have 5 mourners in attendance! Last night Boris Johnson announced that British citizens are to effectively be in lockdown by being housebound with the restrictions of being able to leave your house lifted, for the following reasons; shopping for basic necessities, one form of exercise a day, medical needs/ care for vulnerable people, travelling to and from work and only if absolutely necessary. So there we have it!
Despite the initial mindfuckery that we’re all trying to digest as ‘positively’ as possible, I do indeed think it’s wise and practical advice to help “squash that sombreo!”.
Almost 12 days ago, before the restrictions were enforced, I decided to speak to my employers (Nanny occupation) and told them I wanted a week off to self isolate as much as possible, I took refuge at my boyfriend’s mum’s home in the Surrey Hills. Turns out that was not a bad shout after all! I have since lost my job because of the virus lockdown (I had already handed in my notice of two months, so really my notice was only cut down by one month) but I certainly didn’t want to be surviving off just one more pay-packet. That said, I know many people have just been laid off without any financial support so I do count myself lucky!
During these days, weeks, months…years (!) I would like to keep a daily blog to log activities, struggles and exciting discoveries or progressions which will be unwinding. Being type 1 diabetic I also think it’s important to share my journey with others who may not have that usual daily contact with others to talk about their health; or for anyone who is diagnosed recently and wants to enjoy reading about another diabetic who is facing these times too! It’s also a good reason to share my daily bike ride photos with Sandy (The Man), country walk views and outdoor activities I’ll be keeping up not only keep me sane, but help keep my sugar levels balanced and not sky rocketing from being sat on my arse.
Having a background as an actress I have felt the need to share creative work over the years via blogs/vlogs etc but never really felt I had anything to add of interest to others or of value (is that imposter syndrome?!) but now I’m at home everyday I feel it’s a jolly good time to occupy my mind and sod it, I want to make a blog! To keep a log during this crazy mind boggling time in history and potentially connect with whoever bothers to read this will be fun. Hopefully someone will take pleasure reading or watching my videos, Im curious to reach out to those who are type one diabetic or who have a chronic disease. For yonks I have wanted to form a sort of support group for diabetics without the old fashion feel of it being a typical support group. It’s 2020 after all…and a virus is sweeping the globe BUT we do have the internet!! HOORAAHHH!!!
SO DAY 0…
Sandy and I went on a lovely sunset bike ride! I didn’t have much juice in the tank so ended up doing some yoga in the sunshine while he did laps around Epsom Downs. For my birthday this year Sandy bought me a road bike and we’ve been enjoying ‘training me up!’ haaahaa! He is super fit and a pro on the bike, he’s been super patient and encouraging as I find my footing, building my confidence and improving stamina.
It was my Sandy’s mums birthday yesterday so we did have a lovely cheerful distraction whilst Boris announced these crazy 12 week restrictions, the Cava and cake helped!
Sugar levels have been well behaved today, I’m keeping to 3 meals a day and not snacking on too much between. Veggies are a crazy staple in my diet so the more the merrier! Curious to see how my sugars behave over the coming months so really keen to keep my exercise up to not only help keep them steady but to lift my mood too.
Thankful for the beautiful environment around his mumma’s house as we’re in the beautiful Surrey Hills and are able to get out and about on the bikes to enjoy space and fresh air. So far, so good! I did have a little fall at the weekend on a ride…uphill. Silly me, I tried clipping my feet in whilst static, trying to get back on the bike after a walk up the damn hill. Had a little cry, rub of the elbow and hug with Sandy before getting back not he bike and enjoying the rest of the ride so it was all dandy in the end.
Stay safe and stay indoors, protect yourself and others. Get the fresh air daily and keep those good vibes flowing.
